Betta Jive Urban Beat
Reclaiming the Streets
Celebrating Diversity
Venue: Moving from the Labyrinth, City Park, to Prince's Square
Date: Mon 10 April, 11.30 - 2pm
Cost: $50 per school to take part, Free! to watch
Urban Beat reclaims the streets of Launceston in a procession through the CBD. Open to all young people, this event will see schools chant and beat rhythms in a parade that is memorable, celebratory, and good fun. The parade finishes with a concert in Prince's Square.
We encourage all schools to have representatives in this event and everyone who has participated in the festival to take part. Highlights from the opening event will be presented. All community groups will be invited to have representatives to fully encapsulate our theme "What Makes Up Our Community?"
Students will be encouraged to wear outrageous costume, and develop percussion works. Workshops will be offered to assist schools in these areas.
We have applied for funding to transport two young people from each of these schools, including Flinders Island and Cape Barron - the outcome of which will be known in mid-March. We are conscious of the issues re transport costs and encourage all regional schools to seek transport support from their local community to enable students to attend.
Betta Jive Urban Beat is proudly supported by Betta Milk with its Betta Jive product range.
