2010 festival: bringing Launceston alive! The Streets Alive 2010 festival was programmed as a large scale Arts Trail that aimed to reclaim space and convert Launceston’s public spaces into a public gallery . The arts trail highlighted artwork made by local artists to engage and stimulate community participation in our public spaces. From Inveresk to the City Centre, on the streets, in the parks and laneways the Streets Alive Arts Trail included permanent sculptures, knit graffiti, interactive installations utilising textiles, large‐scale digital images, umbrellas, laughter, music, dance and performance art. “Caught me by surprise... the laneway becomes a warm personal space for a few minutes.... Then I see the Braille tags and I know intuitively they must be funny”....Linda Barker “You should have seen the Town Hall with its columns wrapped with knitting...it was wonderful”- taxi driver from the Airport “What moving and inspirational films at the Pathology with Body Space” Rachel Cuthbertson “Hasn’t the festival been absolutely incredible? Wish the installations and the music tent and projections could stay forever! It’s brought Launceston alive”!! Mark Baigent “Got out last evening and had a fantastic time exploring the Streets Alive Braille trail” Helen With more than 35 projects ranging from installations to performances, projections, workshops and artworks, the 2010 festival worked with over 30 artists and over 2,000 volunteer participants!! It proved to be the third most engaging and participatory event for the Junction Arts Festival as ranked by the visiting delegates. A big thanks to all the artists, volunteers, staff and supporters of Streets Alive without whom none of it would be possible! |
