Meet the Street
Meet the Street: Calling for your input!
Our upcoming project for 2011 will be the series of street parties: Meet the Street. The parties are aimed at providing local residents the chance to get to know their neighbours and have a fun time in their local space.
Over the past few years Launceston has become increasingly multicultural with the entry of people from a range of countries like Congo, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Bhutan, and Nepal to name a few. Meet the Street aims to provide the opportunity to this varied group of residents living on the same street to get together and celebrate their diversity.
Our pilot party was launched on November 27th at Foch Street in Mowbray where people from the street got together to share their culture and food and enjoy music, dance and performance within a creative party atmosphere. Foch Street resident Adams Sy, originally from the Ivory Coast, put together his unique set of tunes for the gig.
The kids had a lot of fun with activities such as face-painting and chalking the street. A big thanks to all the residents who came in and joined the fun and provided us with some awesome African food combined with local Aussie barbeque fare! Special thanks to Adams and Ali for being such lovely hostsJ. We are looking forward to the street party series in 2011 which will be expanding its reach from Invermay to Kings Meadows.
We are seeking local resident input – so if you have a street you want to host the party for, activities you think should be included in the event, or just some ideas –email Kim at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
