Monoxide Monologues is a series of short, fuelled-up monologues written by young Launceston writers. The monologues will zero in on Launceston sub-cultures, the experiences of Launceston's youth and are an important and exciting opportunity for students to spin their top yarn. Using tales of travel and automobiles as the starting point, the students will be tutored in scriptwriting by experienced director, Stuart Loone - everyone has a story. Twelve monologues will be selected to go through to final production… and here’s where the monoxide kicks in…

Monoxide Monologues will be performed in one of the most intimate and every-day of spaces – a vehicle. Whether a sedan, 4WD, police car, hatchback, van, wreck or anything else that goes on four wheels, the actual performance will be intimate and dynamic, with only room for the story-teller and three audience members. The monologues will be performed by young, local actors and ‘looped’ to play up to fifteen times a performance. In a re-thinking of the commonplace, the vehicles will be detailed and crafted into sculpture-like forms by sculptor Andrew Shepherdson, and will be parked in public spaces throughout the central city. The performances will take place in the Brisbane St Mall as part of It's About Us 2006.
