Streets Alive Youth Arts Festival, a festival of arts from schools and studios to the city streets and spaces, has successfully been held in 1999, 2001, 2003 and is on again this year with the focus on "What Makes Up Our Community?"

Each program in the festival will highlight the subcultures within the community whilst addressing some of the main issues currently affecting our youth. We see subcultures being defined as whatever brings individuals together. This festival aims to create an awareness of the existence of these subcultures, and celebrates the colourful diversity that makes up the culture of our city and state.

Each festival involves over 10 000 young people from across the state, expanding their skills in a huge variety of unique arts projects. This year, the event runs concurrent with National Youth Week.

Streets Alive Youth Arts Festival is not only for young people to engage in the arts, but a broad forum for them and the greater community to discuss, debate, explore and express their opinions in creative ways on issues of relevance to the today's young people.

The festival, auspiced by Interweave Arts Association (a non-profit organisation), is an outstanding example of sound events practice with regard to concept development, organisational structure, content and artist resources, project management and marketing - as evidenced by the festival receiving financial support from local business, organisations and from all tiers of government.
