Streets Alive Youth Arts Festival, a festival of arts from schools and studios to the city streets and spaces, has successfully been held in 1999, 2001, 2003 and is once again taking over Launceston in 2006.
The theme of this years' Festival is "What Makes Up Our Community". All the events will in some way reflect this question - exploring individual sub-cultures and their relationship to the mainstream. Streets Alive is an exciting, dynamic way for our young people to express their ideas, opinions and concerns through positive, creative engagement with the community.
The 2006 Festival is bigger than previous festivals, with an expanded program of events taking place in over a dozen locations around Launceston, involving over 10 000 young people in artforms that range from street theatre to car detailing to media installations to fashion.
A major emphasis of this year's Streets Alive is linking with community groups and organisations such as the Migrant Resource Centre and the indigenous community, to generate awareness and celebrate the growing diversity in the north of the state.
The festival team comprises professional directors, teachers, artists, actors and production managers, all of whom are passionate about young people developing their voice through art.
