About Us

Arts trail gathering

Auspiced by the Interweave Arts Association (a non-profit organisation), Streets Alive is an outstanding example of good events practice with regard to concept development, organisational structure, content and artist resources, project management and marketing - as evidenced by the festival receiving financial support from local business, organisations and from all tiers of government.

Our most publicly known project is the Streets Alive Youth Arts Festival, an inclusive event that involves young people engaging in the arts that includes a broad forum for them and the community to discuss debate, explore and express their opinions in creative ways on issues of relevance to the today's young people.

The festival involves thousands of young people and Tasmanian artists, expanding their skills through a huge variety of arts projects for taking over the streets of Launceston. Our last festival was held in conjunction with Junction 2010 - the Regional Arts Australia national conference in August 2010 and was voted amongst the top three most engaging events in the Junction Arts Festival. 2010 also witnessed the permanent siting of our public sculptures, the STOP Talking Rubbish Bin and Dinosaur Chair outside our Studio and the Labyrinth above the children’s playground in Launceston’s City Park!

Some of our other key projects have been Eat the Street with the students from Mowbray Heights, Monster Maker and the Access Arts Trail. We are currently working on our next project "Meet the Street": street parties celebrating Launceston's diversity.
